Mike

Apology.

Major apology. Some of you may have noticed that for the last three episodes of U&F in the free podcast feed, I’ve been (unwittingly) posting episodes you’ve heard before. I had no idea I was doing this. I thought I was posting the correct episodes. Unfortunately this was based on a miscalculation where, for some baffling reason, I counted where we were in the story from the end of Season 4 instead of the end of Season 5. So instead of posting what should have been S6E6, posted S5E6.

What caused this? Senility? Maybe, I’m not as young as I used to be. More likely I was just tired or distracted. In a normal business, someone else in the team might have caught my mistake before the episode went out, but I have no team, so no one did. And when a listener said they thought they’d heard the episode before, because they were just one among the 2 or 3k listeners who hadn’t reported anything, I assumed they must be experiencing a technical issue.

The next month, someone else reported they thought they’d heard the episode before. This was now more than a coincidence, so I checked the episode, and it was what I thought it should be (though what I thought it should be was wrong). So again, since the other 2 or 3k listeners hadn’t reported any issues, I put it down to a technical glitch somewhere.

It wasn’t until it happened this month, when Gal Zilberman reported that S6E8 was the same as S5E8 that I finally realised what I’d done.

So, after a massive dose of sickening mortification, I spent yesterday correcting the three affected episodes and replacing their story content with what it should have been. The bumpers are the same (since their news is date-relevant), but the recaps and story content is corrected. All three are now replaced in the feed.

My apologies to everyone. Especially to those who reported having heard the episodes before. I should’ve investigated more thoroughly much sooner. My only excuse is that I was distracted by the writing and recording of that month’s new Patreon episode, which is always my primary focus, and there was also the cancellation of the U&F TV option, that was kind of distracting too. But whatever; the buck stops here. I f****ed up, and I’m sorry.

It won’t happen again.

Instagram

As I sometimes mention on my podcasts, I enjoy photography and have an Instagram account. I actually have two. My first one was set up years ago just to have a presence on the platform. I shared pictures of my day-to-day life and podcast-related things.

Then I took up photography as a hobby and started sharing more considered photos of scenes, places, people etc. that I take when I’m out with my camera.

However, after a while, I had a notion that maybe people who enjoy my podcasts were following me on Instagram because they were interested not in my photography efforts, but in who I am, and (duh) my podcasts. So I decided to start a second Instagram profile for my photography and to leave my original profile for my life and podcast stuff.

Now, you may not be interested in either. Or you may be interested in one but not the other. Or you may be interested in both. Here are some links for you to have a gander:

I hope you like what you see ๐Ÿ˜Š

p.s. If you do follow me, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could give my pics a “like” now and again. Like everyone else, it makes me happy to see my work getting a little love on social media. What would Underwood say to that? Probably something like, “How very shallow of you, Bennett.” To which I’d reply, “Pipe down, Milord. The internet and social media are the engines that power your existence.” That’d soften his cough.

My Photos in an Exhibition

Two things…
Thing one: Underwood and Flinch Season Five: Episode 6 has just dropped in your podcast app. Huzzah!

And thing two: Some of my photos are currently being displayed as part of my photography group’s exhibition at Wexford Library. Double-huzzah!!

The exhibition is running until May 20th, so if you happen to find yourself in Wexford Town, Ireland, why not pop in? You can check out the exhibition and then borrow a book. Lovely.

The Mike Bennett Podcast Begins

I just posted the first episode of a new monthly show: The Mike Bennett Podcast (it took me seventeen years of podcasting to think of that title). It’s a “me talking about stuff” podcast, and this first one features an update about whatโ€™s going on with me, the latest on the possible U&F TV series, and some listener feedback I received regarding the โ€œcut sceneโ€ episode from U&F Season 4. It was the one where Ronnie Bishop told David about an old flame called Isobel May, who disappeared after becoming involved with a mysterious (vampire) figure called โ€œVincentโ€. So if youโ€™ve unsubscribed from my podcast, resubscribe to get plugged back in. Iโ€™ll be posting a new podcast every month from now on.

Also, I ask a listener question in the show: Which Actress Would You Like to See Cast as Lydia Flinch? Do you have anyone you can see in the role? Someone who always โ€œplaysโ€ Lydia in your head whenever you hear her in U&F? If so, Iโ€™d love to hear from you.

If the show ultimately gets the green light, Iโ€™ll pass on all the listener feedback on this to the TV people. It would be so cool if U&Fโ€™s listeners could actively influence who gets cast in the role (assuming it gets greenlit, of course. We live in hope) ๐Ÿง›๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

You can leave your Lydia casting feedback either here (if you have a WordPress account), SubStack, Twitter, or Facebook.

More Videos Online at YouTube.

Pardon my slackness in posting the news, but I’ve added a bunch of videos to my YouTube channel lately and I forgot to share the news on my own website – Doh!

The uploads include a live reading of Underwood and Flinch: Night Crossing recorded at the Wexworlds sci-fi and fantasy convention in Ireland in 2016 …

… A peek into my fridge when I was living in England back in 2015 …

… A video of my Underwood and Flinch short story, Incident at a Crossroads

… A video in which I share my inner doubts about the wisdom of sharing the news of the U&F TV series with the world …

… And last but absolutely not least, the whole season of my written-for-TV sitcom, Glitterballs. Long-standing listeners may remember my podcast of the show a few years ago. It’s set in a ballroom dancing venue in England in the 1990s. Due to hard times, the owner has to reluctantly hire the venue out to a live rock music promoter with (hopefully, depending on your sense of humour) plenty of amusing consequences.

All six episodes are available in a dedicated YouTube playlist. And here’s Episode One …

So, I hope there’s something in there for you – preferably all of it ๐Ÿ˜„ And if you’re interested in my future video content, then do please subscribe to my YouTube channel. That way if I forget to post news of uploads here again, you’ll still know about them anytime you visit YouTube.

Personal Facebook Deactivated

Just in case you’re a friend, family member, or listener who’s a friend of mine on Facebook and may be wondering if I’ve unfriended you because my personal profile has disappeared from your news feed, I haven’t. I’ve just deactivated my profile. Facebook can be a big distraction from work (as we all know), as well as an all-too-easy (lazy) alternative to doing something constructive when you get some downtime. So I just turned it off.

However, I will continue to moderate and maintain my Facebook group, Mike Bennett Author page, and Underwood and Flinch pages, from my Mike Bennett Author profile. So I’m still there, just not via my personal profile, at least for now. I’m sure I’ll be back at a later date ๐Ÿ™‚
